Christian organisations urge Ireland's EU Presidency to lead on climate justice - Vatican News

More than 170 Christian organizations from across Europe have appealed to Ireland to place climate justice at the heart of its EU Presidency. They call for a permanent tax on fossil fuel profits and a faster transition away from coal, oil and gas. Representing 33 million Christians, the coalition warns that competitiveness must not come at the expense of social cohesion or human dignity. Inspired by Laudato si' and Magnifica Humanitas, the appeal urges Europe to heed the cry of the earth and the poor. As Ireland begins its six-month presidency, Church leaders met Taoiseach Micheál Martin, presenting a position paper rooted in solidarity and environmental responsibility.
