Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said progress was reported on border issues and the return of prisoners during Lebanon-Israel negotiations in Rome. The seventh round, opposed by Hezbollah, focused on a ceasefire, house demolitions, the border, prisoner returns and identifying pilot areas.

Aoun called progress on border and prisoner matters positive and hoped practical steps would follow; the U.S. administration would take up remaining issues. The latest round followed three days of talks in Rome aimed at advancing border security arrangements and implementing a framework agreement reached in Washington.

Conditions in Lebanon remain severe; UN-appointed experts warned of a devastating civilian toll and the health ministry reports at least 4,333 killed.
