Colombia earthquake: NGO warns of trafficking risk for children - Vatican News

After the August 10 earthquake in Colombia, the NGO Cesvi warns that families in the hardest-hit rural areas risk being separated and children may end up in the hands of trafficking networks. At least 53,000 people have been affected, with nearly 300 dead and 4,000 injured. Entire families still lack basic necessities.
Cesvi teams have reached remote villages, where people have lost everything. The worst affected areas include Chocó and Buenaventura, already marked by poverty and displacement. Cesvi director Stefano Piziali stresses the need for long-term accompaniment, especially for indigenous communities, and urges public attention on the humanitarian response.
