More than 8,000 children in the province of East Nusa Tenggara are unable to attend school after a magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck the island of Flores. The quake has killed at least 68 people, injured 213, and displaced nearly 13,000.

Over 900 homes and at least 87 schools have been damaged. Save the Children warns that children are among those most at risk.

Caritas Indonesia has mobilized the Catholic Church's humanitarian network in affected dioceses, and volunteers are taking part in evacuation operations. Among the urgent needs identified are drinking water, food, shelter, healthcare, and support for the most vulnerable, including children.
