Record-low Danube forces nuclear shutdown in Romania - Vatican News

Michael Brown · · Latest news about the Church in the world
Romania was forced to shut down its last operating nuclear reactor after the Danube fell to record-low levels. Authorities used controlled explosions to raise water for cooling. Hungary is also struggling: only one of its four Paks reactors remains online.

Prime Minister Péter Magyar said a submerged river barrier is being built, using 35,000 cubic meters of rock and 110,000 more, to keep the Danube above minus 90 centimeters. These simultaneous difficulties raise questions about nuclear reliability in Central and Eastern Europe as heat waves and droughts become more frequent.
