Roseline Hamel and Nassera Kermiche, known as sisters in sorrow, spoke to Vatican News at the 2026 Rimini Meeting for Friendship Among Peoples. Roseline is the sister of Fr Jacques Hamel, killed in a terrorist attack while celebrating Mass in 2016; Nassera is the mother of one of the two teenagers who perpetrated the attack and was later shot dead by police.

Through their book and testimonies, they share a message of peace and a strength of hope, saying it is possible to encounter one another beyond pain, prejudice and differences. Wars bring only devastation; by daring to meet the other, their friendship leaves no room for hatred.
