WITH JESUS IN THE MORNING
A Decision Made Under Pressure
On this day, the Church commemorates the martyrdom of John the Baptist, and the Gospel presents us with Herod Antipas, who—although he “listened to him with pleasure”—did not hesitate to have John the Baptist put to death so as not to lose face in front of his guests. (Mark 6:17–29)
I ask myself: Do I, too, sometimes act under pressure from those around me, simply to maintain my standing in others’ eyes or to avoid losing reputation? Certainly, my actions are not as serious, but they may reveal a lack of freedom. I ask the Holy Spirit to help me resist that pressure.
I look to the day ahead and offer it to the Lord with the offering prayer....
