Catholic schools surge in Ohio as Bishop urges action to form young people - Vatican News

Catholic schools in the Diocese of Columbus are nearing capacity, and the first new elementary school in 30 years will open. Bishop Earl Fernandes calls this phenomenal growth a major missionary opportunity and issues a pastoral letter presenting education as an act of hope.

The bishop stresses that bishops, pastors, principals, teachers and families share responsibility for evangelizing the young, accompanying them on their journey of faith. Parents are the first educators of their children in the ways of faith; educators see their work as a vocation.

At the heart of his proposal is Jesus Christ, whom the Church proposes, not imposes, as the way, the truth and the life.
