Caritas Colombia: Aid cannot end when the headlines fade - Vatican News

Emily Johnson · · News about the Church
After the earthquake that struck Colombia on Monday, August 10, more than 200,000 people have been affected, with over 300 deaths and thousands of injuries. Bishop Juan Carlos Barreto Barreto, president of Caritas Colombia, insists that aid must not end when the headlines fade. Caritas is coordinating with local and national authorities to provide food, shelter, medicines, and accompaniment. At the same time, 80 priests sent by the Archdiocese of Bogotá are offering Spiritual First Aid in the hardest-hit areas, walking with those who have lost homes and loved ones. The Church remains committed to walking alongside communities through the long journey of recovery.
