Meet Poland’s first martyr of Communism - Vatican News

Michael Brown · · News about the Church
Pope Leo XIV recalled Blessed Father Władysław Findysz, the first beatified martyr of communist persecution in Poland, during the General Audience. The Pope said the blessed reminds us that a civilization of love is built by forgiving and overcoming evil with good. Falsely accused of forcing people into religious practices, Father Findysz was sentenced to two and a half years in prison, where he suffered abuse and was denied treatment for oesophageal cancer. Released in extreme exhaustion, he died months later, regarded as a man of holiness.
