Myanmar Jesuit sees Buddhist Waso as bridge for interreligious peace - Vatican News

Fr. Girish Santiago, SJ, the Jesuits' regional superior in Myanmar, calls the Buddhist season of Waso a meaningful bridge for interreligious encounter and shared peacebuilding in conflict-torn Myanmar.

He sees common ground between Waso and Catholic spirituality in prayer, Lenten discipline, loving-kindness, compassion, nonviolence, simplicity, and interreligious friendship. He also refers to Pope Leo XIV's encyclical Magnifica humanitas, saying authentic interreligious dialogue respects theological differences while identifying shared human values for the common good.

As monsoon rains nourish the fields, he hopes prayer, generosity, and compassion will bear fruit for reconciliation across Myanmar.
