Sydney Archbishop stresses Church must ‘offer positive alternatives' to euthanasia - Vatican News

The Labor Party voted to remove federal barriers to telehealth consultations for approving euthanasia, a move Archbishop Anthony Fisher of Sydney said turns telehealth into teledeath. The vote amended the party's platform ahead of expected legalization of voluntary assisted dying in the Northern Territory, which would make VAD legal across Australia.

Archbishop Fisher lamented how quickly the country moved from no legal euthanasia to over 14,000 applications and 7,000 deaths. He stressed the Catholic Church must offer positive alternatives, especially palliative care, and protect Catholic healthcare institutions.
