Millions of Dalits in Bangladesh face limited schooling, labour market barriers and substandard housing. In the Diocese of Khulna, where most Catholics come from Dalit backgrounds, the Church combines evangelisation, education and social support to help marginalised communities reclaim dignity. Bishop James Romen Boiragi says the diocese's work centres on human development, with Caritas at the centre; catechesis and educational formation remain at the core. For Dalits, encountering the Gospel means rediscovering themselves as children of God and opens access to education and opportunities.
