Amid torrential rain and a magnitude 5.8 earthquake, the Diocese of Calapan was canonically established on 7 August, with Bishop Moises Cuevas installed as its first bishop. The Mass was presided over by Archbishop Charles John Brown, Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines. The celebration culminated nearly nine decades of missionary accompaniment, from the Apostolic Prelature of Calapan in 1936 to its elevation by Pope Leo XIV in March 2026.
