More than 50 delegates representing seven regional episcopal conferences of Africa, Madagascar and the Islands concluded the first preparatory seminar for the 2028 Ecclesial Assembly on August 5 in Addis Ababa. The seminar marked the official beginning of the continental phase of Africa's preparations for the assembly in Rome in October 2028. In his closing address, Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo Besungu, president of SECAM, thanked God for two days of prayer, listening, dialogue and discernment. Participants identified African synodal priorities and a roadmap through four stages beginning in 2027.
