Caritas Indonesia has mobilized its humanitarian network after the magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck Flores, East Nusa Tenggara, early Saturday, triggering a tsunami and causing damage. Initial data from the National Agency for Disaster Management reported 38 people dead, while official consolidated data on casualties, injuries, displaced people and damaged houses was still being verified. Caritas Indonesia coordinated with the dioceses of Ruteng, Labuan Bajo, Kupang, Maumere and Ende. Volunteers and Caritas teams are already providing assistance and supporting evacuation efforts. Parishes, with their bishops' support, were also encouraged to take an active role. The response follows the principle One Church, One Response, so aid can reach those in need quickly.
