An unexpected letter with a single dollar changed everything for Albertus Gregory Tan. Financially the dollar changed nothing, but spiritually it changed everything, and he decided to keep going. Today the 36-year-old lay Catholic, through the Vinea Dei foundation and its crowdfunding platform Jala Kasih, has helped build 219 churches and chapels across Indonesia. Gregory insists the real mission is not the buildings: it is bringing hope, strengthening faith, and reminding those on the margins they are not forgotten.
