After an exceptionally violent magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck Manizales, Colombia, killing more than 200 people and leaving hundreds injured, Archbishop José Miguel Gómez Rodríguez speaks of a people determined to move forward.

The emblematic Manizales Cathedral suffered serious damage when one of its auxiliary towers collapsed. Homes suffered serious damage, as did half of the churches and ecclesial buildings.

Trusting in God's providence, the archbishop has seen charity in the Church's Food Bank response and in donations, and he thanked Pope Leo XIV for his closeness, felt as the help of Jesus Christ. Amid suffering, there is a determination to move forward.
